Beta Gel, a silicone based gel with almost unbelievable absorption qualities, as seen in this video from Japan Probe. If you could get this type of performance in a floor underlayment, it would greatly reduce footfall / impact noise. In fact Geltec does make an underlayment called NP Gel, but does not offer any information on it's IIC ratings. Hopefully, someone can import this to the States and do some testing.
In this video an egg is dropped from about 70 feet onto a pad of Beta Gel, the egg does not break. The host then throws the egg at the Beta Gel pad and it still does not break. Watch how the egg does not bounce. You can see how this product might make a great floor underlayment.
